Food is good for health and living, but if one is not careful, some food products can be very poisonous for our bodies. It is always good to know what is good for us as we eat. Some food items on the market are not good for healthy living, no matter their national or international certifications.
The big question I always receive from people is
"how to know if a food product is good or not." After consulting many
nutritionists on this matter and reading many books, I put these steps here to
help those who may want to select good food items for themselves and their
loved ones.
Avoid going for cheap products—nutritional foods are
not as cheap as we may sometimes think. Going for cheap food products is a
great health risk for us.

Always read the ingredient list—the first thing to know about a food product is what it is made of. Products that don’t have an ingredient list should be avoided as taking them is like taking something you don’t know into your body.
Be careful with products with long lists of
ingredients—on a personal note, I am always very careful about products with
long lists of ingredients. Sometimes you find unidentified ingredients in it. A
product with a long list of ingredients should be a red flag.
Avoid products containing ingredients to which you are
allergic – Our bodies are sometimes allergic to certain ingredients, and in
such cases, we should avoid them; otherwise, we will eat them and harm our health.
If you are allergic to pepper and you see pepper in a food product, then avoid
that product and go for one that does not contain pepper.
Always look at the expiration dates—don’t buy a
product without checking the expiration dates. There are many expired products
on shelves in stores, and people just get into them, buy them, and go without
knowing. Products with no expiration dates should be avoided at all costs.
Respect the storage method of foodstuffs—the manner of
storing a product is very important when buying a foodstuff. If a product
requires cooling storage and you don’t have a fridge, then avoid it or buy it
and take it immediately without delay, as keeping it out of the fridge can make
it become poisonous to the body.
The hygiene of the place you buy food products should
not also be neglected.
It is very important for us to care more about what
enters our body than medicine especially as the food we eat is supposed to be
our medicine. Not caring about the food one eats is like neglecting and caring
less about his own health.
