History will undoubtedly remember Barrister Akere Muna as one of the most ferocious and fearless lawyers in Cameroon. For years, he has stood alone in his fight against powerful cartels, including the Cameroonian government and the Glencore Petroleum conglomerate, exposing corruption and malpractice at the highest levels.
What many
may not know is that, since the Biya regime took power, there has never been a
transparent account of Cameroon’s petroleum revenues. From selling petroleum
products at prices far below global standards to rampant bribery and
corruption, the regime has hidden the true value of the nation’s resources.
This lack of accountability has deprived the Cameroonian people of what is
rightfully theirs.
While I am
aware that sharing these truths on platforms like Facebook may lead to my
account being banned, I remain committed to exposing the crimes of this regime.
Silence is not an option. Without communication, there will be no one to speak
up for us, and justice will remain elusive.
I will
continue this fight as long as I live, because the future of Cameroon depends
on our willingness to speak out against the injustices we endure.
